Perfume 101
In Person and Online
In this introduction to perfumery for olfactive adventurers and budding perfumers, participants will learn the very basics of perfumery so they can get started with confidence.
Our recurring online Perfume 101 class serves as an orientation session for newcomers to the field, olfactive adventurers, curious minds, and budding scent enthusiasts who need a little boost.
In this theory-focused introduction to perfumery, IAO director of operations Minetta Rogers covers the basics: fragrance families and classifications, working in a perfume lab, and an introduction to the different kinds of aromatic materials and the all-important formula.
Participants will leave with the basic knowledge they need to start a journey down the rabbit hole of appreciating and even making scent, as well as a more considered understanding of what they encounter at the fragrance counter.
