Learning how to assemble perfume accords leads to a greater adeptness at blending\, and well-trained noses. Learn how to construct accords as you explore the individual aromatic components of these perfume accords. \nOur accords series helps students of perfumery understand the molecular components of the various facets and types of the most important notes in perfumery. By attending this class\, an emerging perfumer or scent artist will expand their capabilities and training\, gain the materials knowledge to add a new accord to their arsenal\, and leave with a deeper understanding of the artistry and science behind perfumery. \nMaterials Needed/Pre-Class Homework: We will send you a master document containing the materials list and formulation exercises upon signup via the confirmation email from Eventbrite. Please purchase these materials before attending class. The estimated cost of the perfume materials is between $85\, not including any labware you may need to purchase. Her online sessions will focus on helping students understand the molecular components of the various facets and types of the material by exploring and picking apart a formula\, over several trials. Materials must be purchased in advance and students are expected to make the all steps of the perfume accord’s formula before class starts. By attending these classes\, an emerging perfumer or scent artist will expand their capabilities and training\, gain the materials knowledge to add various fragrance components to their arsenal\, and leave with a deeper understanding of the artistry and science behind perfumery. It’s technical blending at its best\, leading to a greater adeptness at blending\, and very well-trained noses. \nStudents must purchase\, dilute\, and blend materials before the start of class. Materials lists and formulas are sent as part of the confirmation email from Eventbrite. \n\n\nABOUT ASHLEY EDEN KESSLER \nA Los Angeles native\, Ashley came to perfumery after forays into other creative disciplines. Sculpture\, Architecture\, Theater\, Film and Design were the initial steps on her search for a mode of expression that would support both a dreamer and a pragmatist\, a creative mind fascinated equally by science and by art. Perfumery\, the science of the ineffable\, is where the road finally took her. \nHer first introduction to scent was by way of a gift on her 16th birthday: a bespoke fragrance formulated by renowned perfumer Sarah Horowitz. The study of architecture and design led to travel and work in film art departments\, but ultimately it was to Sarah Horowitz Parfums she returned. From apprentice to Junior Perfumer at SHP\, she was smitten with the field. Dropping everything else\, she immersed herself in study and practice. \nHer education in niche perfumery continued at LA’s Lucky Scent\, and seeking a more formal education in the field\, she moved to France to study at the prestigious Grasse Institute of Perfumery. There\, she distinguished herself with her final brief- winning one of GIP’s coveted awards. After her studies\, she returned to the U.S.\, having accepted a position as a Perfumer’s Assistant at Drom Fragrances International\, one of the world’s top fine fragrance studios. After two years in that position\, she was offered the chance to move back to Los Angeles as consultant for Sarah Horowitz’ new business initiative\, Original Scent. In 2013\, Ashley joined the Institute for Art and Olfaction as an instructor\, and in 2015 she founded her perfume company\, Sentir Studio. \n\n\nATTENDANCE AND REFUND POLICY \nThis is an online class that will take place on Zoom. SUMMARY:IAO Collections Smelling Session: Men's Department (in person)
DESCRIPTION:Sign up: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/iao-collections-smelling-session-mens-department-in-person-tickets-1996761451252\n–\n\n\nIn this class\, we will smell historically noteworthy and interesting perfumes historically associated with the men’s aisle of the perfumer counter—sourced from the Institute for Art and Olfaction’s collections. This smelling session will be supplemented by fragrance-related multimedia and in-class discussion. \nParticipants will get to smell a curated set of fine fragrances from the IAO Collections in a group setting. Our discussion will focus on the impressions of these scents as well as their concordance with the theme. \nThis session is a unique opportunity to smell and discuss otherwise inaccessible fine fragrances from deep inside our archives. \nNote to returning students: If you have attended past smelling sessions\, there may be some overlap with previous scents from earlier sessions. \n\n\nAbout IAO Collections \nThe IAO Collections is a reference library and archive of books\, perfumes\, aromatic objects\, and ephemera related to scent\, with an emphasis on 20th century perfume and olfactory art. \nThe objects in the IAO Collectons have been gathered since the Institute for Art and Olfaction held its first public event in 2012. In early 2021\, the collections received a substantial influx of materials bequeathed by Conor McTeague – a friend of the IAO and an irreplaceable advocate for the cultural value of perfume.
