IAO Library: Inauguration + Party
July 18 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm PDT
Various–
We are excited to unveil the IAO Library.
While we have had a collection since the IAO’s very inception, a 2021 donation by Connor McTeague kicked the library project into high gear. Over the past several years we have meticulously cataloged the data on thousands of books, perfumes, and aromatic objects and to celebrate this exhaustive, community-led work we’re hosting a micro-fundraiser (and a macro-party) to welcome everyone to the IAO Library.
We are taking this opportunity to also introduce some of the contributors for Alabastron – a journal that explores scent’s role in society and culture. As if that wasn’t enough, we’re fresh from the 10th Art and Olfaction Awards, and excited to present the finalists and winners!
Each attendee receives a stub for our door drawing, with library-themed donations from Imaginary Authors, Immortal Perfumes, and more to be announced.
Join us and help us celebrate a new resource for lovers and students of scent.
5- 6:15 pm: Social Time
Enjoy special selections from the IAO Perfume Collection curated by Daniel Krasofski, smell the finalists and winners of the 10th Art and Olfaction Awards, enjoy a drink, and make new friends.
6:15 pm: Intro to Library
Charles Rosenberg introduces the library’s collection of scent books, with a brief introduction to the collection’s intention, scope, and (nerds rejoice!) the Library of Congress classification system.
6:30 pm: Author Readings
Saskia Wilson-Brown introduces Alabastron, with special readings from contributors:
Chach Sikes (reading from Vilna Violet)
Dana El Masri (reading from Not Your Or**ntal)
Ryan Hanley (reading from Unusual Boy)
Se Young Au (reading from Seeds of Transference)
7:00 pm: Door Prize + Social Time
We’ll announce door prizes as you peruse the library, smell the finalists and winners for the Art and Olfaction Awards, and – importantly – make new friends.
