This offering is designed to ensure that cost is not a barrier to participation\, and to welcome those for whom our standard registration fees may not be feasible. \nBlending aromatic molecules together into a composed perfume is not only fun\, but creative\, challenging and – sometimes – kinda relaxing. We can’t promise that you’ll make the next Santal 33\, but we can guarantee that you’ll come away with a healthy respect for the art\, science\, materials\, and skill it takes to make perfume. \nOpen Sessions are the IAO’s longest running program\, and focus on hands-on experience for newcomers to the practice. In a casual\, self-led setting\, you’ll independently tinker with materials from the experimental organ\, select five to work with\, and get to making your first trials! \nWe have everything you need: Aromatic materials (natural\, synthetic\, and accords)\, 5/8 dram vials and pipettes\, and scent strips. You go home with your formula\, what’s left of your materials and — most importantly — a new awareness of what it takes to make a perfume. All you need to bring is an open mind\, and down the rabbit hole you go!

DESCRIPTION:Sign up: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/scent-in-culture-a-3-part-lecture-series-with-saskia-wilson-brown-tickets-1980281597566?utm_experiment=test_share_listing&aff=ebdsshios \n– \nThis is an external event managed and produced by Philosophical Research Society. \nSaskia Wilson-Brown presents a three part lecture series at the Philosophical Research Society Library\, demonstrating the impact of perfumery on human creative and cultural expression\, and drawing from her research into global historical scent practices as well as from esoteric teachings\, metaphysical texts\, and occult traditions represented in the PRS collections. The series reflects ongoing inquiries within the library’s holdings into ritual\, embodiment\, desire\, symbolism\, and the unseen forces that shape human experience. This research forms the basis of her upcoming book The Cultures of Perfume (D.A.P.\, Autumn 2026). \nPresenting richly textured anecdotes interwoven with historical research\, these talks will further root the topic in both contemporary and historic olfactory culture through direct experience of aromatic materials and perfumes. Our offerings also include a curated selection of books\, magazines\, and fragrance wheels. \nFor ease\, please check out our online Inventory to see what will be on offer; you can assemble your shopping lists ahead of time!* This is a convenient time to purchase materials for classes that have Materials Lists\, as well expand your personal collection of scents for your own creative endeavors. \nOur pricing is as follows: \n• 5/8 Dram Vials for $4.00 (Refills for $2.00) \n• 1 Dram Vials for $6.00 (Refills for $3.00) \nThe library will be open for enjoyment as well. Staff will be present to assist with the sales but cannot provide consultation or education.
