Perfumer Ashley Eden Kessler explores the technicalities of composing fragrance for candles in an accessible format for beginners and advanced students.
Attendees will learn the basics of composition techniques and process strategies, with the necessary technical and creative information to apply their scent-making practice to the specific application of candles.
This online session will cover an introduction to aromatic materials for candles, a review of fragrance oil design and formulation, evaluating candle scent, and common issues in candle-making. There will be time reserved for Q&A and troubleshooting.

Class 2: Making Perfume for Room Diffusers

Consider the humble igneous rock known as Scoria. You’ve seen it around, right? It’s often found in sometimes elegant, always decorative aromatic objects. You may know it as a lava rock. It’s the latest thing in room diffusers, and it’s honestly a lot less complicated than candles.
Ashley explores the technicalities of composing for environmental applications – with a focus on lava rocks – in an accessible format for beginners and advanced students.
Attendees will explore the composition techniques and specific application needs for environmental scenting, with the necessary technical and creative information to apply their perfumery practice to a new application.
Attendees will also receive a brief overview of scenting for reeds, room sprays, and… briefly… candles.
