Materiae Unguentaria: Books about Perfumery Materials (in person)
July 24 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm PDT
$25.00–
Join the IAO Library Curator Charles Rosenberg in a series of single evening classes exploring the most important books in the library. Each class will focus on a single category of books that perfumers should be familiar with and may want to add to their own collection of books on perfume. About a dozen books will be covered in each session.
Our first session covers perfume dictionaries and books about perfumery materials: we will introduce the IAO library and explore books that list the materials of perfume practice – including dictionaries of perfume ingredients and other sources of ingredient information. Information contained in these books will greatly expand your repertoire of materiae unguentaria (perfumery materials). Knowledge is power! Learn about navigating a library using the Library of Congress subject classification system, while you become familiar with important books in the history of perfume knowledge.
