Blending aromatic molecules together into a composed perfume is not only fun, but creative, challenging and – sometimes – kinda relaxing. We can’t promise you that you’ll make the next Chanel No. 5, but we can guarantee that you’ll come away with a healthy respect for the art, science, materials, and skill it takes to make perfume. Open Sessions are the IAO’s longest running program. This onboarding experience is designed precisely for beginners who learn best by diving in.

These guided sessions are a great chance to get your first experiences with scent blending!

After getting a one-hour introduction to the evening’s curated materials, you will be able to independently tinker with materials of your choice in a casual, social setting. We have everything you need: aromatic materials (natural, synthetic, and some accords), vials and droppers, scent strips and travel sprays… All you need to bring is a notebook, and and open mind. Down the rabbit hole you go!

When you sign up for a class or event at the IAO, you will receive an Eventbrite confirmation email which contains important information, such as materials lists or preparation instructions. Please be sure to scroll down in the email, so you see those instructions.

For online classes, you will receive the Zoom log-in information approximately 12 – 24 hours before each session begins. To avoid this going to spam, add hello@artandolfaction.com to your address book. Our online classes are recorded, and the video is available to registered attendees for 7 days after the class takes place. Because the class is recorded and can be viewed later, we do not provide refunds or transfers for online classes.
