Join art historian and museum professional Jessica Murphy and the Institute for Art and Olfaction’s Minetta Rogers for an online discussion and Q&A. In this chat, they will cover Jessica’s process in researching perfume history, incorporating olfactory components into gallery experiences as a museum professional at the Brooklyn Museum, writing about perfume, and more. This discussion will be followed by an audience Q&A.

Jessica Murphy has been writing about fragrance online since 2007 at the leading perfume blog Now Smell This and her own blog, Perfume Professor. Since 2015 she has taught and lectured about fragrance through organizations including the Brooklyn Brainery, Morbid Anatomy, the Brooklyn Museum, and the New Jersey Council for the Humanities. Her approach is interdisciplinary and multi-sensory, combining perfume history, art history, and popular culture.

This is an online event that will take place on Zoom. If you are unable to attend live, the event will be recorded and shared with all registrants.

When you sign up for a class or event at the IAO, you will receive an Eventbrite confirmation email which contains important information, such as materials lists or preparation instructions. Please be sure to scroll down in the email, so you see those instructions.

For online classes, you will receive the Zoom log-in information approximately 12 – 24 hours before each session begins. To avoid this going to spam, add hello@artandolfaction.com to your address book. Our online classes are recorded, and the video is available to registered attendees for 7 days after the class takes place. Because the class is recorded and can be viewed later, we do not provide refunds or transfers for online classes.
