DESCRIPTION:Sign up: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/perfume-playbook-scents-from-the-crypt-in-person-tickets-1999420120403?aff=oddtdtcreator \n– \n\n\nDaniel Krasofski presents an analytical perfume-evaluation class exploring unusual materials and strange scents from the IAO collections. \n\n\n\n\nDaniel Krasofski presents an analytical perfume-evaluation class exploring unusual raw materials and strange scents from the IAO archive\, because sometimes a perfectly nice fragrance needs a little menace. \nWhat makes a scent feel strange\, unsettling\, playful\, or just a little bit haunted? In this Halloween-season edition of Perfume Playbook: Evaluation\, an Analytical Technique\, participants will smell and evaluate an unusual selection of raw materials alongside perfumes from the IAO archive\, including scents connected to The Nightmare Before Christmas\, the Marvel Cinematic Universe\, and Disney. Rather than making a fragrance\, we will focus on close smelling\, descriptive precision\, and the useful art of turning “oh no\, what is that?” into analytical language. Together\, we will consider materials and finished perfumes through vocabulary\, structure\, association\, intensity\, and emotional effect- yes\, there will be graphs; no\, they will not bite. Participants will document their impressions using guided evaluation tools\, building a clearer understanding of how unusual scents communicate character\, atmosphere\, story\, and the occasional whiff of mischief. \n

DESCRIPTION:Sign up: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/balancing-act-grave-matters-in-person-tickets-1999421155499?aff=oddtdtcreator&keep_tld=true \n– \n\n\nMake one strange scent worthy of the Halloween season\, using a Jean Carles approach to perfume composition\, in person with Daniel Krasofski. \n\n\n\n\nDaniel Krasofski presents Balancing Act: Grave Matters an interpretive class exploring a Jean Carles approach to perfume composition by making one strange scent worthy of the Halloween season. \nThis Halloween-season edition of Balancing Act invites participants to create a perfume around one unusual and evocative idea: dirt – which is more atmospheric than traditionally “pretty.” Following the familiar Balancing Act format\, we will work through a softened\, interpretive approach to the Jean Carles method\, using proportion\, comparison\, and repeated trials to understand how a composition takes shape. Rather than trying to make every spooky scent at once\, a reliable way to summon chaos\, we will focus deeply on one accord and observe how individual materials affect its texture\, balance\, mood\, and recognizability. We will explore how an earthy\, metallic\, mineral\, animalic\, or decaying impression can become compelling\, nuanced\, and perhaps even unexpectedly beautiful. Participants will leave with a structured set of trials and an original fragrance sketch: proof that sometimes the monster under the bed simply needs better proportions.

Scent strips will be handed out by your friendly Institute for Art and Olfaction team\, and we will spend time smelling and discussing our impressions of aromatic materials associated with sweet treats and spooky tricks. \nWe will start the second portion of the session by briefly discussing blending scent\, and your individual Halloween-related scent concept. Each student will have the opportunity to blend with aromatic materials previously selected as well as those more closely fitting to their seasonal concept. We will spend the rest of the session experimenting with our own short formulas.
