The Aromatic Gourmet: Salts (in person)
September 28 @ 12:00 pm - 3:30 pm PDT
$150.00–
There’s a special kind of magic that happens when flowers, food, and fragrance come together. Find out for yourself as you learn how to taste, evaluate, and blend aromatic salts in the third class of our new series with Jeffrey Paul: The Aromatic Gourmet.
In this three and a half hour class, Jeffrey Paul will focus on the history, making, and tasting of salts.
Welcome to the world of salt, an essential yet often overlooked rock that plays a pivotal role in our culinary and cultural history. Salt has been a cornerstone of human civilization, serving as currency, preserving food, and shaping trade routes like Italy’s Via Salaria.
Explore the multifaceted world of salt, uncovering its deep historical roots and essential role in both culinary and cultural traditions. You’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of the science behind salt, including its impact on taste perception and its importance in bodily functions.
Salt is a versatile ingredient with countless uses and aromatic expressions. We will experiment with various types of salt, from the mineral-rich Himalayan pink salt to the smoky essence of artisanal smoked salts, each offering unique flavors and textures.
As we journey through these different salts, you’ll discover how they can transform dishes by enhancing flavors, balancing acidity, and adding texture. Just like a master perfumer crafts a signature scent, you’ll have the chance to create your own custom salt blends, tailored to your taste preferences. These blends, infused with aromatic herbs, spices, and other natural ingredients, will serve as a personal touch to elevate your cooking at home.
By the end of this class, you won’t just take home knowledge—you’ll take home a collection of your own luxurious, aromatic salt creations, ready to add a new dimension to your culinary repertoire.
Take-Aways: Participants may leave with botanics-derived salts and custom salt blends.
