The Business of Perfumery (online)

Turning your passion for perfume into a business is no easy task. Sarah Horowitz-Thran is here to help, with humor, generosity and decades of experience.
This class will be focused on the pragmatics of running a perfume brand, teaching the very fundamentals of building a business. We will start by focusing on the important questions every new company should ask and answer, including the importance of positioning statements (and market analysis).
We will then talk about such crucial subjects as knowing and understanding your Cost of Goods (COGS) including production costs, and review wholesale and retail pricing. We will also look at the difference between perceived value pricing and COGS value pricing, and cover materials sourcing, creating an Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), marketing, and touch on strategies for communicating about your brand to sales staff and consumers.
All in all, this will be an information-rich session from a veteran perfumer who has been through it all. If you’re new to the game, this is an important introduction to what it takes to launch a perfume brand. If you’re more experienced, this can help you set your business on a more considered footing.
