IAO Experimental Project Space

ABOUT

Polaroids and scent both have a strong impact on the way we spend time with people around us. These two mediums help us slow down to take a second off our smartphones, look into each other eyes, and connect.

Klara Ravat believes that we need to empower our senses and human presence throughout embodied interactions with our environment. The purpose, for her, is to keep our inner human social face-to-face facet alive. With these ideas in mind, Klara keeps a diary of pictures and scent memories of the people and places she finds on her daily life.

The IAO is thrilled to present a two-week exhibition of Klara Ravat’s photographic and olfactory work in our experimental project space.

ABOUT KLARA

Klara Ravat is a Berlin-based olfactory artist and experimental filmmaker.

After studying qualitative trend research in Barcelona Klara moved to The Netherlands where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (ArtScience at The Royal Academy of Arts). At the same time she studied Psychology at the Open University of Catalonia. Klara is the co-founder and director of the Smell Lab, a community project that focuses on the investigation and practice of the art and science of the sense of smell.

By opposing the division between the realm of memory and the realm of experience, Ravat absorbs the tradition of remembrance art into daily practice. By investigating the concept of landscape in an adventurous and exploratory way, she wants to amplify the wonderment of the spectator by creating compositions or settings that generate tranquil poetic images that leave traces and balances on the edge of alienation and recognition.
