Minetta Rogers is an artist, curator, educator and Director of Programs at the Institute for Art and Olfaction based in Los Angeles. Minetta Rogers has an interdisciplinary approach towards making. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Cultural Anthropology from Reed College and studied architecture at California College of the Arts. Rogers spent years working in the design field and its adjacent industries, such as architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, production design, and art department for film and television. This diverse background has given her an appreciation for lateral thinking and problem solving in the pursuit of craft.
Minetta Rogers started her involvement in the Institute for Art and Olfaction in 2015, and has been teaching perfumery and scent-blending to newcomers for almost a decade. Her work as a scent educator focuses on playful, experimental introductions to the medium with a hands-on approach. Drawing inspiration from the design approaches that she learned through her studies in architecture and in the field, she brings an approach to education that is rooted in facts, curiosity supported by rigorous research, and design strategies. In her role as Director of Programs, Rogers oversees the educational and programming schedule of the Institute for Art and Olfaction in partnership with Director of Projects Julianne Lee and Executive Director and Founder Saskia Wilson-Brown. Her directorial programming focuses on contemporary and history artistic engagements with olfaction, particularly in literature and performance; cultural perspectives on scent; and industrial histories of perfume production. With an eye to the Institute for Art and Olfaction’s mission goal for collaboration and access, Rogers has led educational and exploratory perfume-making workshops at institutions such as the Craft Contemporary, Hauser & Wirth, as well as for schools, companies, and social groups. As an artist-curator, Rogers has contributed to the field of olfactory art as both a curator and artist.
