Director of Projects
Julianne Lee is a perfumer, artist, and Director of Projects at the Institute for Art and Olfaction (IAO).
Her time at the IAO began in 2014, when she attended an Open Session. Since then she has helped shape many of the organization’s major programs, including Art Olfaction Amsterdam, a month-long residency at Mediamatic.
Over the years, she has worked in perfume production at Mondo Mondo, written about fragrance at Luckyscent, and received the International Technical Degree in Fragrance Creation and Sensory Evaluation from the Grasse Institute for Perfumery.
As Director of Projects, she oversees partnerships, new initiatives, and special projects. She co-produces the Art and Olfaction Awards, which have been presented in Los Angeles, Amsterdam, Berlin, London, Lisbon, and Athens. She helps curate and produce the Experimental Scent Summit and IAO Gallery, and leads courses that range from introductory to advanced perfumery. She has helped a community of emerging perfumers take root around the organization.
Outside the IAO, Julianne works independently as a perfumer for brands, artists, and cultural institutions, and consults within the fragrance industry. Her practice draws on literature, contemporary art, and a close knowledge of materials and technique.
