IAO Collections Smelling Session: Men’s Department (in person)

In this class, we will smell historically noteworthy and interesting perfumes historically associated with the men’s aisle of the perfumer counter—sourced from the Institute for Art and Olfaction’s collections. This smelling session will be supplemented by fragrance-related multimedia and in-class discussion.
Participants will get to smell a curated set of fine fragrances from the IAO Collections in a group setting. Our discussion will focus on the impressions of these scents as well as their concordance with the theme.
This session is a unique opportunity to smell and discuss otherwise inaccessible fine fragrances from deep inside our archives.
Note to returning students: If you have attended past smelling sessions, there may be some overlap with previous scents from earlier sessions.
About IAO Collections
The IAO Collections is a reference library and archive of books, perfumes, aromatic objects, and ephemera related to scent, with an emphasis on 20th century perfume and olfactory art.
The objects in the IAO Collectons have been gathered since the Institute for Art and Olfaction held its first public event in 2012. In early 2021, the collections received a substantial influx of materials bequeathed by Conor McTeague – a friend of the IAO and an irreplaceable advocate for the cultural value of perfume. It is in his honor that we embarked upon the project of cataloging his donation of over a thousand perfumes, and incorporating them into our existing collection.

Drawing inspiration from the design approaches that she learned through her studies in architecture and in the field, she brings an approach to education that is rooted in facts, curiosity supported by rigorous research, and design strategies.

ATTENDANCE AND CANCELLATION POLICY FOR IN PERSON CLASSES
Please note that you must reserve your space in advance. If you just show up without reserving a spot, there is no guarantee we will be able to accommodate you.
When we host a class or workshop, we often order the materials to be used in the class well in advance, based on how many people have signed up (and padding a bit for safety). We also use class proceeds to pay our teachers. Although we realize that life has a funny way of getting in the way of the best laid plans, as a small non-profit we cannot afford to carry the burden of lost proceeds and materials.
– Cancellation with refund made 1 week or more (7 days) before the scheduled session will be honored UNLESS materials or formulas have been shared in advance.
– Refunds requested 1 week or less before the class starts, on the day of the classor after the class has happened will not be granted.
Please review our cancellation policy here: https://artandolfaction.com/educationatiao/cancellation-policy/
Thank you for understanding!
