Implications of Health Data in Fragrance Material Regulation (online)
This session reviews fragrance toxicology and the importance of science literacy in the perfumer’s tool-belt. Dr. Sydney Nguyen will help coach you through your recent breakup with beloved fragrance materials (i.e., new IFRA regulations), while explaining how regulatory decisions are informed by different types of health data.

ABOUT DR. SYDNEY NGUYEN
Dr. Sydney Nguyen is an independent perfumer and a scientist studying human health hazard as a result of chemical exposure. She holds dual bachelors in biology and neuroscience from Purdue University and earned her PhD in endocrinology and reproductive physiology from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. She works for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and is currently pursuing her professional certification in toxicology.
She began studying chemical-associated health effects in 2012, expanding her study to fragrance molecule safety for perfume production in 2022. She is an avid fragrance collector, valuing perfumery as a form of communication and storytelling that transcends language. Sydney hopes to empower other independent perfumers to tell their stories safely and confidently by demystifying fragrance chemical evaluation.
