Roundtable Discussion: The Aesthetics of Olfactory Art

The philosophers Yoko Iwasaki (Université des Beaux-arts de Saga, Kyôto) and Chantal Jaquet (Université Paris1 Panthéon-Sorbonne) are interested in the aesthetic of olfactory art. Yoko Iwasaki is interested in the specifics of Japanese olfactory tastes, notably related to kôdô – a tradition of perfumed wood. Chantal Jaquet will speak about the evolution of western olfactory practices. Physiology researchers Didier Trotier (CNRS), Roland Salesse (INRA), Sophie Domisseck (INRA) will explain the mechanisms of olfaction and the receptivity of spectators in olfactory art exhibitions, while artists Maki Ueda, Boris Raux, and Violaine de Carné will present their practices, as related to odor.

Address: CIUP – 7c Boulevard Jourdan, 75014 PARIS
