The yearly beastie we call The Art and Olfaction Awards has launched again, with submissions open until November 15, 2018.

 

For this sixth edition, we are accepting submissions in three categories: Artisan, Independent and Experimental (aka The Sadakichi Award for Experimental Work with Scent), open to all projects that premiered or released between January 1 and December 31, 2018.

We have three submission categories for the Art and Olfaction Awards, which reflect the varieties of practice in independent perfumery. Please click the category below to learn about qualifiers and rules for each category:

Artisan Category
For brands that are owned or co-owned by the perfumer, who initiated and created the submission’s formula in-house, released under the brand’s name.
+ ARTISAN QUALIFIERS

Independent Category
For brands that employed an external perfumer or fragrance house to create the submission’s formula, which was then released under the brand’s name.
+ INDEPENDENT QUALIFIERS

Sadakichi Award (Experimental)
For creative or experimental practitioners who make unconventional use of scent, that takes it out of the domain of traditional perfumery.
+ SADAKICHI QUALIFIERS

 

In addition to there, we have two discretionary awards that we award on a yearly basis to one person or perfume, per award. Please click the award type below to learn about the qualifiers for each category, and how we decide the winners.

Contribution to Scent Culture Award
This award is given on an annual basis to an outstanding person who makes significant contributions to public awareness of artisan, independent and experimental practices with scent on an international scale.

Aftel Award for Handmade Perfume
This award will be given on an annual basis to one outstanding small batch perfume that was 100% perfumer-created, in-house, with no use of outsourced compounding or expansion at any stage of the process.
